Issue 02: Legacy
£10.00
-17%It seems apt to talk about Legacy in a time like this, even though when we launched our open call back in 2019, we didn’t know a year which would leave its own legacy was waiting for us.
And yet, we pushed through even harder to deliver Issue 02: Legacy, because we know how important it is to keep telling our stories, keep pushing for change and to constantly question what we have been left with, how we can improve it and what we will be leaving behind.
In this issue, we converse with Mariam Kamara of Atelier Masomi in Niger, sculptor Vladlen Babcinetchi from Romania, and Cecil Balmond of Balmond Studio, London. We look at the legacies of war and colonialism in Cyprus and Angola, through salt preserved photographs and modernist concrete blocks. We ask what it means to build without knocking down memories, communities and buildings through the Slaveykov project in Sofia, Community Gateway in Cardiff and retrofitting. And while we reflect on our human condition through designs of the past, we ask ‘what is the language of design that speaks to our souls in the 21st century?‘
